[Mar 7th 2026] CHU Welcomes International Students with Care and Team-Building Activities to Kick Off the New Semester
2026-03-07 │ Secretariat’s Office
CHU's International Preparatory Program has launched its semester opening activities, centered on the spirit of "Care and Connection." With Mandarin teachers and the International Student Center accompanying students throughout, the program incorporated team-building games, class motto creation, and a karaoke friendship competition to help nearly 500 Vietnamese students develop a sense of teamwork and cohesion. The atmosphere was lively, with warm interactions between teachers and students visible at every turn.
Vice President Hung-Nien Hsieh encouraged students to take advantage of the festive season by venturing into the local community and experiencing the cultural scenery of lantern festivals in Hsinchu, Zhubei, and across the country. He also urged everyone to cherish their time and focus on their studies. He expressed his hope that, come the same time next year, everyone could gather again in the spirit of "reunion" to witness the fruits of their hard work and growth, and wished all students a safe, smooth, and academically rewarding new semester.
The event also featured cultural experiences and musical performances. Students enjoyed Taiwan's iconic bubble tea while watching two Mandarin teachers perform on stage: Teacher Yu-Ching Chang sang "Leave My Reliance" and "A Little Less Talent," while Teacher Nguyen Nhat Tien performed the Vietnamese song "Đôi Lời Tình Ca." The interweaving of familiar and new melodies created shared cross-cultural memories and allowed connections to flow naturally. One student shared: "Our teachers don't just teach language — they use music to help us get to know Taiwan and each other. It's the first time I've felt truly at ease and like I belong here."
To further build group energy, PE Department teacher Ching-Ju Chen led the students in a group fitness routine. Through coordinated movements and call-and-response instructions, students quickly developed class rapport and a sense of collective pride, building shared memories amid laughter and sweat, and laying a solid foundation for the learning journey ahead.
CHU's International Preparatory Program provides comprehensive, end-to-end support — from language learning to daily life adjustment — combining Mandarin and professional courses with academic tutoring and other resources to create a safe, welcoming, and continuously growing learning environment. Going forward, the program will offer even more attentive care and well-rounded support to accompany every Vietnamese student in expanding their international horizons and professional capabilities, ensuring that "learning well, living well, and going further" remains a living reality at CHU.
