CHU's 36th Anniversary celebration was held grandly under the theme "New Challenges, New Horizons." This year's ceremony also marks the first anniversary celebration since the merger, making it especially significant. The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including NTHU Vice President Hsiang-Kuang Chang and Hsinchu City Government School Supervisor Hui-Ping Huang, who joined together to witness this important moment as CHU steps into a new phase. Alongside the official launch of the “CHU’s 36th Anniversary Commemorative Special Edition”, the event also featured a campus fair, student club exhibitions, and a sustainability-themed "Musical Instrument Auction," drawing enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, and alumni alike, and showcasing the vibrant new face of CHU amid its transformation.
Board Chairperson Hong Qiu-Xia Yang reflected on the university's development since its founding in 1981, noting that the 36th anniversary marks the beginning of another brand-new journey. She expressed particular gratitude to NTHU and various sectors of society for their guidance and assistance throughout the merger process, which allowed the transition to proceed smoothly. Chairperson Yang noted that CHU now has over 60,000 graduates active across all fields of society, and that the university will continue to uphold its motto of "Diligence, Simplicity, Sincerity, and Integrity," staying true to its educational mission and aspiring to create even greater possibilities at this new milestone.
NTHU Vice President Hsiang-Kuang Chang also spoke highly of CHU's contributions to higher education over the past 36 years. He shared that the two institutions began discussing collaboration more than two years ago, and that the merger plan was officially approved by the MOE last year, establishing the CHU campus as an important development base for NTHU. Vice President Chang indicated that the campus will promote the establishment of a Semiconductor College, along with plans to develop a technology park encompassing fields such as space technology, biomedical technology, AI and intelligent robotics, and sustainable technology — with the goal of creating a forward-looking industry-academia co-creation hub, and advancing together with CHU into a new phase of greater depth and breadth.
President Victor Liu stated that in the first year following the merger, CHU has made a concerted push to advance generative AI education, launching the "Course Pilot AI Teaching Assistant Platform" to help faculty enhance their digital literacy and enable students to become proficient with AI tools throughout their learning journey. CHU has also partnered with the Institute for Information Industry to provide curriculum materials and certification resources, aiming to strengthen students' competencies for future industries. He emphasized that the university will continue to refine its student counseling and support systems, helping students who have taken leaves of absence or lack sufficient credits to successfully complete their studies, ensuring that every student who chooses to remain at CHU receives adequate support.
This year's anniversary celebration also saw the release of the richly detailed “CHU 36th Anniversary Commemorative Special Edition”, featuring interviews with 61 individuals including board members, former presidents, distinguished alumni, and senior faculty and staff. Through their memories and experiences, the publication offers a comprehensive portrayal of the CHU's 36 years of educational achievements, major transformations, and its future blueprint following the merger. The campus fair also captured widespread attention with its diverse offerings, highlighted by the first-ever "Musical Instrument Auction," conducted through live bidding. This not only demonstrated the campus's innovative commitment to sustainability, but also drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, students, and alumni, adding a memorable highlight to the anniversary celebration.
At this important milestone — the CHU's 36th year — CHU is embracing its transformation with steady strides. From advancing AI teaching innovation to strengthening student learning support, the university consistently demonstrates its commitment to being student-centered. Looking ahead, with the collective strength of Tsing Hua University and generations of faculty, students, and alumni, CHU will forge the next leg of its journey with renewed vitality, continuing to write a brilliant new chapter for the CHU community.
