[Jun 08th 2024]Dragon Boat Festival is approaching! CHU’s international students praise Taiwanese rice dumplings as "delicious"
With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, CHU's International College organized an event to allow international students to experience local Taiwanese culture. Nearly 200 international students were invited to taste authentic meat rice dumplings and make fragrant sachets, experiencing Chinese culture. An Australian student who tried the meat rice dumpling for the first time happily exclaimed in Taiwanese: "It's delicious!" There were also dance and music performances to enjoy. Deputy Director Dr. Yan of the International Program Department, Dean Jian of the College of Intelligence, Dean Liang of Chung Hua College, and Director Qiu of the Military Training Department all came to participate. Everyone celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival amidst laughter and joy.

Amy Chuang, head of the Student Affairs Section of CHU's International Program Department, stated that the Dragon Boat Festival is one of Taiwan's three major traditional festivals. CHU organizes festival events every year to allow International students from different countries to understand the history of the festival and increase International students' integration and understanding of local culture. This year, CHU bought nearly 200 meat rice dumplings, red bean bread, and red tea for students to enjoy. They also invited students to perform dances and music, as well as experience making fragrant sachets to welcome the Dragon Boat Festival. In addition to fostering closeness among international students, they also hoped to provide a warm, home-like feeling to foreign students and alleviate homesickness.

Weian Wu, an Australian student studying in the CHU’s Intensive Chinese Language Program, tried Taiwanese rice dumplings for the first time and found the taste very special and chewy. He excitedly exclaimed in Taiwanese, "It's delicious!" causing the surrounding international students to burst into laughter. Ann from Ireland said that being able to participate in such a special event during her first visit to Taiwan felt very meaningful. She thanked the school for organizing the event, giving her the opportunity to learn about Taiwanese culture. Next week, she will also participate in a dragon boat race in Tainan, showcasing her love for local culture!
Photo 3:Nguyen Ngoc Nguyet, a student in the Department of Information Engineering (right), said that the Dragon Boat Festival is also celebrated in Vietnam, but there are fewer related events to participate in. She was delighted that CHU took the effort to organize this event. On the left is Yimin Huang, a Malaysian student in the Overseas Youth Program, who also sang the song "I Love You" at the event and received a warm applause.
Deputy Director Dr. Yan of the International Program Department, representing the school, thanked the students for their enthusiastic participation and shared the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival with the international students. He hoped that while enjoying the holiday, they could understand the underlying meaning behind it. In addition to preparing for the upcoming summer and necessary disease prevention measures, he also hoped that students would possess the qualities of loyalty, simplicity, and honesty, just like the school motto of "diligence, simplicity, sincerity, and Integrity." He encouraged them to be upright individuals who will be respected after entering society in the future.
