[May 06th 2024]An Alternative Overseas Graduation Trip! Students from City College of Angeles in the Philippines Experience CHU's AI Technology and Express Interest in Studying There

As the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have been lifted, more and more universities are organizing overseas graduation trips. The Tourism Management Department of the City College of Angeles in the Philippines, which is also a four-star member of the Asia-Pacific Exhibition and Event Association (APIEM) along with CHU, chose the CHU campus as one of its graduation trip destinations this year. The faculty and students visited the CHU's Training Hotel under the College of Tourism, the AI+ Experience Center, the Museum of CHU History, and the Arts Center. They were amazed by CHU's application of high-tech and expressed interest in studying there.

To create wonderful memories for the students during their graduation trip and promote exchange between overseas APIEM members, more than 80 faculty and students from the Tourism Management Department of the City College of Angeles in the Philippines visited CHU for the first time and interacted with the College of Tourism. During the visit, Filipino student Marian Collado said that her first impression of the campus was that it was vast and had a beautiful environment, which is rarely seen in universities of such scale in the Philippines. She was particularly impressed by the abundant resources and high-tech applications on campus, and found the lifelike interactions with the robot Zenbo to be fascinating and novel. Another student, Caren Galang, noted that as a Tourism Management student, she was excited to see that CHU has a training hotel called "Smart Health House" that integrates high-tech. The rich learning resources on campus would contribute to students' development in the tourism industry, and if given the opportunity to study in Taiwan, CHU would be her top choice!
Amor I. Barba, Dean of the College of Business and Management at the City College of Angeles, said that it was the first time she witnessed the extensive application of high-tech in various areas by faculty and students. Moreover, the presence of a training hotel and travel agency on campus allows students to gain practical experience closer to the workplace, which is lacking in domestic universities. She hopes to work towards this goal upon returning to the Philippines. Dean Barba firmly believes that the two schools will soon become sister universities and good partners in education, allowing students to have more exchanges and promoting growth in their respective professional fields. Dr. Xin-Wen Chang, CHU’s Dean of the College of Tourism, said that as the private university closest to the Hsinchu Science Park, the integration of AI and high-tech with various colleges is a characteristic and advantage of CHU's education, with the aim of aligning students with industry trends.

CHU’s College of Tourism is the only four-star member of the association in Taiwan. Not only has it established Taiwan's first Elite Training Center for MICE Professionals, but in 2020, it also obtained the qualification of APIEM International Center of Excellence. Through cross-national educational exchanges, English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), and other initiatives, the college aims to promote internationalization and enhance students' international competitiveness. The college hopes to successfully establish a sister university relationship with the City College of Angeles and deepen the friendship between the two institutions!
