On Lunar New Year's Eve, every household celebrates reunion. This year, international students who are staying at CHU campus over the new year holiday are no exception. On New Year's Eve, the "New Year's Eve FUN" event hosted by CHU’s Office of International Foundation invited Vietnamese students on campus to showcase their cooking skills, preparing Vietnamese square dumpling, spring rolls, seasoned pork rolls and other Vietnam-style New Year dishes. Students from various countries gathered together in the training restaurant to heartily enjoy the dishes and exchange cultural customs from different countries, spending a warm lunar new year holiday together!

CHU’s Vice President and Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Hsieh, said that since the event was first held last year, the response from the students has been very enthusiastic. Therefore, it was continued this year, allowing 50 international students to continue celebrating the lunar new year together around the stove. Also, as there are mostly Vietnamese students on campus, four Vietnamese students were invited to be the "head chefs" this year to host the banquet and treat everyone to Vietnamese cuisine. The crew started going to the market in the morning to purchase ingredients. The menu specifically included Vietnamese square dumplings and spring rolls that Vietnamese people eat during the Lunar New Year, making the new year atmosphere even thicker.

PeyShi Hsu, an Indonesian student from the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning, said that this was her first time experiencing the Lunar New Year in Taiwan and she felt it was very lively. In the past, she would eat roast duck, hot pot, barbecue and more to celebrate the Spring Festival back home. This time, enjoying the Vietnamese spring rolls and chicken soup on CHU campus, she felt the tastes were very special and it was an awesome experience. Kanako Fukuda, a Japanese student from the Bachelor’s Degree Program of Applied Foreign Languages and Smart Commerce, said that being able to enjoy the warm chicken soup during the cold Spring Festival really warmed up her stomach and heart. She highly praised the soup as the most delicious dish among the Lunar New Year’s Eve menu, giving the Vietnamese chefs big thumbs up!

CHU’s Vice President and Dean of International Affairs Dr. Hsieh (in red jacket on the right) and Student Affairs Director of Office of International Foundation Program Amy Chuang (in green jacket on the left) came to the scene specially to celebrate with the students.
