[Oct 21th 2026] CHU Pioneers a Traffic Safety "Seed Lecturer" Program for International Students, Cultivating a New Force for Peer-Led Outreach

To improve international students' traffic safety knowledge and skills while living in Taiwan, CHU has launched an innovative traffic safety education initiative, the first of its kind: the "International Student Traffic Safety Seed Lecturer Program." Student representatives are selected to receive professional training and then practice teaching in Chinese. Once the university confirms that both the traffic safety content and the way it is delivered are accurate, the students return to their classes to share what they have learned with their peers. Through this "train, practice, share" learning process, students move from being recipients of knowledge to promoters of safety awareness, which both strengthens their traffic safety literacy and builds a more influential peer-learning mechanism.
Participating international students said that when they first arrived in Taiwan, they were relatively unfamiliar with traffic regulations, the road environment, and local road-use culture. After taking the systematic courses, they gradually came to understand key concepts such as pedestrian right-of-way, yielding at intersections, and traffic signs. In particular, while preparing teaching materials and rehearsing their talks, they had to thoroughly understand the material and organize it into easy-to-follow content in order to convey the main points to classmates effectively. This process not only deepened their own understanding of traffic safety, but also improved their Chinese-language expression and communication skills.
To strengthen learning outcomes, CHU also drew on local traffic safety resources, inviting the Hsinchu City Motor Vehicles Office and the Hsinchu City Police Department to come to campus and jointly organize traffic safety outreach activities. The course content covered traffic regulations, analysis of accident cases, and scenario-based video instruction, helping students develop correct road-use habits. The event also featured an interactive "Real-Life Intersection Floor Mat" experience, which simulates real roads and intersections and guides students to observe traffic risks from the perspectives of both pedestrians and drivers, learning to identify blind spots and potential dangers. Through immersive learning and hands-on practice, traffic safety education moves beyond the traditional lecture format and becomes more integrated into students' daily lives.
CHU has long prioritized student safety and the holistic education of its "Sunshine Youth." In addition to continuing to promote traffic safety education, it guides students to turn what they learn in class into real action through hands-on participation, service learning, and leadership development. This innovative International Student Traffic Safety Seed Lecturer Program not only helps international students adapt more quickly to Taiwan's traffic environment, but also fosters a sense of responsibility to care proactively about public affairs, communicate and share effectively, and serve their peers. It reflects the university's educational commitment to cultivating graduates with an international perspective, social responsibility, and practical ability.
