[Dec 25th 2023]Michelin star chef comes to CHU campus! CHU’s College of Tourism partners with Le Muse Hotel to promote Taiwanese-British dual degree program with success
Recently, CHU’s College of Tourism invited a two-Michelin-star chef from Hotel MVSA, a Michelin-starred restaurant that has won stars four years in a row, to demonstrate cooking skills on campus for students to observe and learn. Four years ago, the College partnered with Hotel MVSA and the century-old prestigious University of Sunderland in the UK to jointly offer a Taiwanese-British dual degree program taught entirely in English (EMI) to enhance students' international competitiveness. Since its launch, the program has been well received. On this day, the first graduating class returned to CHU to affirm CHU's cultivation and encourage their juniors to work hard towards their dreams!

In order to broaden students' horizons and provide more learning resources, CHU invited a two-Michelin-star chef from Hotel MVSA to demonstrate cooking skills on-site at the university's training restaurant "Tasty Garden" and teach students cooking and plating techniques hands-on. The chef amazed everyone's taste buds by preparing delicious molecular gastronomy dishes using different techniques! Four years ago, CHU’s College of Tourism partnered with the century-old prestigious University of Sunderland in the UK to offer a "3+1 International Tourism and Hotel Management Dual Bachelor's Degree Program" (ITHM). Students spend the first three years studying at NCHU and accumulate practical experience by interning weekly at Hotel MVSA, then spend their last year at the University of Sunderland in the UK to strengthen their academic abilities. The entire curriculum is taught in English (EMI) to align with international standards. Students’ homeroom teacher Pei-Ying Wu said students graduating with dual degrees from Taiwan and the UK can choose to continue their studies or work at international chain brands, greatly enhancing tourism and exhibition students' competitiveness!
Dean Hsin-Wen Chang of CHU’s College of Tourism said that the ITHM dual degree program has received strong support from Hotel MVSA Chairman and CHU’s chair professor James Wang, who assists with courses and internships every semester, cultivating many talents passionate about the tourism, exhibition and catering industries. This year, the College has also obtained the Ministry of Education's EMI program for the national bilingual education policy and is one of only two key cultivation colleges for tourism, catering and exhibitions in Taiwan. Therefore, the College specially combined with Hotel MVSA this time to hold two-Michelin-star chef course demonstrations and EMI observation activities, and also gave students opportunities during the process to demonstrate what they have learned and accumulate experience.

Bing-Da Li, a grad. from the first cohort of the ITHM dual degree program, returned to CHU during this event to thank the professors for their cultivation. Bing-Da Li said that during the three years at CHU, the professors emphasized practical teaching, allowing students to accumulate hands-on experience through internships. The last year at the U. of Sunderland focused on academic and theoretical learning. Living abroad as an international student also taught him to be independent and integrate into the local culture, which was an invaluable experience! Currently, he is working at Hotel MVSA, applying what he learned and steadily moving towards his dream with CHU's recommendation!
