CHU’s Vietnamese students from the International College of Chinese Studies went last week to Wenlin Pavilion in Xionglin Township, Hsinchu County, a historic place of worship, to pray to the god of Erudite for success on their Mandarin exams so they can continue studying at university in Taiwan. Led by a team from the Paper Studio paper-making workshop, they handmade bamboo fans, fully immersing themselves in Taiwanese culture.

Amy Zhuang, Unit Leader of CHU’s Office of International Affairs , said Vietnamese students can only study Mandarin in their first year in Taiwan. They can enroll in university after passing the A2 level of the Chinese proficiency test. This cultural immersion camp was organized specially to take Vietnamese students to worship god of Erudite for academic success and to strengthen emotional bonds between them through DIY courses.

Vietnamese students Hoang Thi Nguyen and Han Thi Thu Trang, who came to Taiwan last year to study Mandarin, have successfully passed the A2 level of the Chinese proficiency test. They will enroll in the Department of Electro-Optical and Materials Engineering at CHU this September. After graduating, they also hope to stay in Taiwan and work in the Hsinchu Science Park. They joined this immersion camp to relax and encourage their juniors.

Photo6 / Built in 1876, Wenlin Pavilion has a history of 147 years. It is the largest temple devoted to god of Erudite in Taiwan. Many students travel long distances to worship here for academic success. The incense burns vigorously.
