[April 12th, 2022] Former Executive Dean Mao Zhiguo, who is also a Distinguished Chair Professor of Chung Hua University, was recently invited by the School of Management to discuss ESG: Environment, Society, Governance.
Mao Zhiguo pointed out the crux of the problem from the three aspects of environmental protection, social responsibility and corporate governance. He proposed a number of solutions, such as “The circular economy is the main countermeasure against the environmental crisis, and enterprises should be more strict with self-requirements”, “Inequality between the rich and the poor is the source of social problems, and enterprises should jointly bear the external costs caused by social problems”, and “Professional managers must operate within a rigorous corporate governance structure”.
Mao Zhiguo further proposed the importance of the "visible hand" based on the "invisible hand" theory of Adam Smith, the father of modern economics. State-owned enterprises, through organizational adjustment, active promotion of broadband content and mobile value-added services, and effective strengthening of marketing strategies, have brought Chunghwa Telecom back to the throne of the telecommunications leader.
