| Academics--College
of Engineering |
| The
Engineering College consists of 6departments
¡@¡@¡EElectrical Engineering,
¡@¡@¡EMechanical and Aerospace Engineering,
¡@¡@¡ECivil Engineering,
¡@¡@¡EApplied mathematics,
¡@¡@¡ECommunications Engineering,
¡@¡@¡EMicroelectronics Engineering
and one institute (Engineering Science) which offers Ph.D.
program. Students graduated from the College mainly work
as engineers in hi-tech industry.
The College has been seeking collaborated research projects
with Hsinchu Science Park, Industrial Technology Research
Institute, and National Health Research Institutes.
|
| Department
and Graduate School of Electrical Engineering
The research fields include: computer theory, computer
graphics, image processing, parallel & distributed system,
computer network, VLSI design and testing, human-machine
interface, computer theory and management, etc.
The curriculum puts emphasis on the following three streams:
information engineering of hardware and software, computer
theory, and computer management. In addition, our programs
combines theory and practice, equipping students with what
is needed in their future careers.

|
| Department
and Graduate School of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering provides adequate training
to help students work in the industry readily.
The future development of the Department in instruction
and research is directed to the study on the automation
of construction engineering. This is also a policy of the
government in response to the labor shortage problem. The
short-term goal of the Department is placed on studying
the properties of the construction materials and enhancing
the automation in design, evaluation and testing for quality
control. The long-term goal is directed to the industrialization
of building engineering.

|
| Department
of Mechanical Engineering and Institute of Aeronautics and
Astronautics
Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics was established
with a view to provide aeronautical professionals to the
national aerospace program in the near future. The program
consists of four major research groups: (1) Combustion and
Propulsion, (2) Design and Manufacturing, (3) Materials,
and (4) Control.
Goals: (1) Design, manufacture, and test fuselages and
wings. (2) Design, manufacture, and test airplane engines.
(3) Design navigation and guidance software. (4) Research
and develop the satellite system. (5) Research and develop
automobile engines. (6) Research and develop manufacturing
skills for precision machines.
|
|
| Department
of Applied Mathematics
The research fields include differential equations, numerical
analysis, computational fluid dynamics, computational solid
mechanics, and applied statistics. The department also works
on improving the teaching methods of basic courses such
as calculus. The goal to establish the department of applied
mathematics is to solve mathematical problems related to
engineering, science and business administration. Based
on interdisciplinary cooperation, our future plan is to
establish a mathematical counseling center at the university.
Master program for graduate study is available now.

| Department
of Communication Engineering Independent from the
Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of
Communication Engineering was set up in 2003 and starts
to recruit students from year 2004. ?The current faculty
consists of five associate professors, one assistant professor
and three lecturers. Six of them have Ph.D. degrees and
one is a doctoral candidate. Their specialized fields range
from digital signal processing, wireless communication to
digital and analog IC and computer network communication.
Graduates from the Department can either get further study
or get into workplace in the industries of computing, communication,
opto-electronics, automation and semiconductor.
The future development of this Department will focus on
tight connection to industries besides fundamental courses.
We aim to design courses of application and integration
in communication systems. In other words, it is cultivating
professionals in response to the need of industries that
counts.Since fields in communication engineering cover from
elemental research to incorporated application of systems,
our strategy of planning will change with time and need,
hoping to realize requests from national industries.

Institute
of Engineering Science
This Ph.D. program
amalgamates faculties and research resources from five areas
of electronic engineering, information engineering, mechanical
and aerospace engineering, applied mathematics and bio-information,
expecting to nurture advanced high-tech specialists.
Close cooperation and interaction with Hsinchu Science
Park, Industrial Technology Research
Institute and National Health Research Institute is
highly accentuated.
The brief introduction of each five sections is as
follows:
1.
Section of electronic engineering: We focus on cultivating
sophisticated development and management experts in areas
of communication, control, electric circuits and opto-electronics. Curriculum with theories and practice enables students to absorb
the latest knowledge independently, and quickly adjust themselves
to new trends of technology and industries.
2.
Section of information engineering: The goals of
our section are (1) laying solid foundation in basic professional
knowledge (2) increasing experiences in actual operation
(3) centering on team-work (4) encouraging abilities to
independent thinking and creativity and (5) nurturing positive
attitudes and mature personalities of students.
3.
Section of mechanical and aerospace engineering:
With the tendency of new age and new industries, our section
launches such educational objectives as follows: (1) developing
talents in the subjects of mechanical and engineering (2)
giving instructions in cross-field or integrated engineering
knowledge (3) performing research and development in the
most up-to-date manufacturing and (4) producing authorities
with independent thinking and multi-faceted training abilities,
to help enhance the technological level of national high-tech
industries.
4.
Section of applied mathematics: The main educational
purpose of this Section are (1) providing cooperating chances
for applied sciences and theoretical mathematics (2) training
cross-field talents to improve their research abilities
and qualities and the ultimate goal is to offer superior
professionals in applied mathematics to our nation and society.
5.
Section of bio-informatics: The aim of this Section
is to supply forward-looking personnel of research and practice
in the fields of biology and information.
We hope our students can be academically informative
and practically productive in R & D in biological technology
industries.
