Department of Architecture and Urban Planning
In
response to the great needs of our fast-growing society, the Department of
Architecture and Urban Planning puts special emphasis on the integration
of theories and practice. Our graduates are well-trained,
and capable of both abstract thinking and practical implementation.
Basically,
our courses are designed in a "studio" system: each class
has only 8 to 10 students, who can freely select their advisors and
get involved in the fields they are mostly interested in. Basic courses
from which students can soon gain a general picture of the urban environment
and have chances to participate in commercial activities are not neglected.
Goals:
A. Keep a friendly relationship with the Department of Landscape Architecture,
with an expectation to cooperate. B. Strengthen the bonds between
theory and practice in environmental planning so as to meet the needs
of the fast-changing society. C. Emphasize on the application of new technology
through computer systems, for example, urban information, architecture
planning and design, construction engineering management, and architectural
analysis of the physical environment. In this way, students can quickly
get ready for a more technically advanced architectural environment of Taiwan.
Laboratories: Water engineering Lab, Computer Design Center, Urban
Environment Lab, and Physical Environment Lab.

Department
of Landscape Architecture
With the growing concern about the quality of our environment,
the role of landscape architects becomes more and more important.
These concerns range from spatial, behavioral and social
design problems to environmental, cultural, recreational
and management issues.
The Department of Landscape Architecture provides students
with a broad overview of the field and offers them flexibility
in choosing their directions. The core of our program focuses
on teaching students to develop a caring attitude and an
understanding towards both a manmade society and the natural
environment. The courses include theories, methods and skill
training for design, planning and research. In the first
two years, students will get a general overview about the
field and the future directions they may be interested in.
In the last two years, students are encouraged to take courses
in one or two course groups coinciding with their career
plan. The main course groups include courses in landscape
and urban design theories and methods, landscape engineering,
environmental planning and management, park and recreation,
computer-aided design, and public participation. The department
is also organizing three new study groups for urban landscape,
cultural landscape and sustainable landscape management.
Students graduating from our department can work in a wide
variety of organizations from private landscape architecture
offices to large corporations from local governments to
a central tourist bureau. They can also pursue further studies
in landscape architecture, park and recreation, urban design,
nature resource management and other related fields.
